Bone Densitometry

Bone density exam also known as DEXA uses very low dose radiation to assess bone strength in your body. Bone density exams can determine if you have low bone density(osteopenia) or Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition of low bone density that reduces bone strength and may result in fractures. Bone density exams are safe, quick and painless.

The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends getting a bone density exam for:

→ Women 65 years and older.
→ Men 70 years and older.
→ Over age 50 and have broken a bone.
→ Post menopausal women under age 65 with risk factors
→ Men between ages 50-69 with risk factors.

No special preparation is needed for the bone density exam.
